Are the Only Free English Tutoring Service in
Orange County
|
Literacy Orange is a volunteer based English tutoring provider. Formed through a merger of Literacy Volunteers of Eastern Orange County (LVeoc) and Literacy Volunteers of Western Orange County (LVWOC), we are the only free English tutoring
service in the area.
We:
- Evaluate speaking, reading, and writing skills
- Match each student with a tutor
- Identify short and long term goals
- Support students to make the experience a positive one
We offer one on one English tutoring and small group instruction. You can improve your reading skills at no cost.
Adults need strong literacy skills to:
- Raise children who have strong literacy skills.
- Be good employees.
- Keep themselves and their families healthy.
- Be active in their communities.
- Advocate for themselves and avoid human rights abuse.
- Avoid crime.

Education
Our failure to address America’s adult literacy education and workforce skills is putting our county in jeopardy. In the United States 1 in 5 American adults is functionally illiterate. That is more than 40 million people that can not read a bedtime story to their child, or read the directions on a medicine bottle. Illiteracy threatens our nation’s standard of living and economic viability. The cost of illiteracy to tax payers and businesses is an estimated $20 billion annually. That’s why we’re dedicated to raising the literacy rate in our community through our literacy programs.
We strive to:
- Promote positive community environments for literacy.
- Increase access to adult learning programs for both men and women.
- Reduce barriers to literacy.
